Keeping things simple can be your secret to action too

Hi there!

You might remember Complexity Bias from a few posts agoโ€”how we often believe something is more complicated than it truly is.

I've recently experienced a moment where Iโ€™m able to apply what I wrote. Itโ€™s the best feeling when the dots are connecting in a meaningful way.

Let me explain.

Lately, I've been feeling like I'm not as reflective as I'd like to be.

As a coach, I always emphasize the importance of introspection, striving to lead by example. Yet, I've found myself distracted and making excuses for not engaging in reflection.

I've made numerous excuses (embarrassingly):

  • I reminisced about how I wrote my reflection journal in school, and my teacher's validation was a daily motivation. Now, without that validation, I struggle to maintain the habit.

  • I mentioned how coming up with reflection prompts feels like extra work, something I dread after a long day.

  • I noted how I can't stick to writing in notebooks because I often abandon them after a few pages, leading to a collection of half-used journals.

  • I debated whether reflection and self-coaching could be integrated, which only added to my confusion.

At the end of my internal debate, all I craved was simplicity.

In a moment of clarity, I decided to strip down my approach.

๐Ÿ‘‰๏ธ If writing isn't working for me, I'll record my reflections as audio. The essential part is to verbalize my thoughts.

๐Ÿ‘‰๏ธ I've settled on one straightforward question to ask myself at the end of each day: "How was your day?"

That's it.

Sometimes, keeping it simple is the most courageous step we can take.

Stay Courageous,

Joping
