Giving up when I don't see success

Hi!

Will you share what happens when you don’t see success?

Remember Instant Gratification in my last post? The inability for our emotional part to visualize the possible better future makes it easy to cave in now.

I think I might be experiencing it now.

The last few weeks has been fun working on this series/other goals but my doubts got me thinking. I came up with these 4 areas that people find it tempting to give up and want to crowd source ideas. Hopefully, it can be a launch pad for the questions I have for you below.

  • Learning a new skill: Struggling initially is common when playing a musical instrument or learning a new language. I can’t recall the number of times I tried to pick up a 3rd language and failed miserably.

  • Weight loss and fitness goals: I’ve heard about so many people set their goals at the start of every year but become disheartened when they don't see rapid changes in their physique and then abandon it completely.

  • Career advancement: Missed promotions anyone? Especially in an environment e.g. consulting where it’s highly competitive, people might always be on lookout for prove points of their worth. Without immediate recognition, it’s easy to feel discouraged.

  • Starting a business: It takes time to find a niche and establish a brand. Many aspiring entrepreneurs may become discouraged if they don't see quick results and may abandon their venture prematurely.

How many do you relate to?
