Why every day courage matters

Courage doesn’t have to look dramatic.

Hi there!

Just yesterday, someone asked me why I started Everyday Courage. The reason is simple.

My belief is you have what it takes to be extraordinary. It might not always be easy to see it in yourself at first. At least I know it wasn’t easy for me.

Everyday Courage does that by:

  1. Sharing stories of courage: Basic social cognitive theory tells us that we are motivated through what we witness as others’ actions.

  2. Increasing awareness: I write about everything between action and intention and tips to close them.

For this week, I want to continue to expand on courage.

Did you know that courage can be practiced?

Imagine working out a muscle. Your ability to face fear also increases with practice.

Let’s be honest. Right now, most of us have ideas we are too nervous to share, or opportunities we'd like to pursue and situations we’d like to change.

If you are looking to take that bold step to be different, these techniques might support you:

Self-affirmation: these includes any phrase that reminds you of who you are as a person. It serves as an encouragement to stay resilient in the face of adversity. What helps this to be effective is where you focus on affirming yourself. Do they align with your values and sound authentic?

Create scenarios: we are prone to negativity bias. So, imagine both the worst that could happen if you took an action and what the outcome would be if you didn’t act. By identifying the risks you are taking, you can build immunity to your fears.

Remember your wins: Lean on the times you have practiced courage before. A coach’s role is to work with you to notice these and remind you of them.

How many of these would you apply?

Have you been putting off something and then hate the feeling of procrastination? I can help you:

👉 Clarify and strengthen your intentions. Why do you want to do this?

👉 Unpack what’s holding you back

👉 Stay accountable and supported on your action plan
