3 podcasts and episodes worth listening to
and quotes that made a difference for me

Hi there đź‘‹ In just one month, we have exchanged a remarkable 10 emails! Thanks to you reading this (average of 70% open rate!), I have been encouraged to consolidate what I learn.
I try to learn something new everyday (sometimes not successfully). One of the ways I find consistently effective for me is to listen to podcasts on my 1-hour commute home.
I want to introduce 3 podcasts that I’ve been listening to. In case you don’t have time or podcasts are not your thing, I summarized the episodes and quotes that gave me new insights:
1. Reset by Liz Tran
“Liz Tran is the creator of Reset, an executive coaching company to CEOs and founders. Before Reset, Liz spent a decade in tech, most recently as the only female executive at a top venture capital firm.” | Liz’s podcasts focuses on well being and growth. She shares vulnerably but still holds a quiet confidence. She makes you feel like a big sister you never had. In her episode “Does Everything Happen for a Reason?” She explores how we can frame our thinking when making big, scary decisions. She reflects when you ask the universe for something, its usually one of these 3 responses: “yes”, “later” or “something better is coming your way”. Another quote that resonated with me is “rejection is redirection”. What we can do is to be “ready to receive it.” |
2. On Purpose by Jay Shetty
“Through captivating and sincere dialogues, Jay Shetty engages in conversations with some of the most influential and insightful individuals on the planet. From President Joe Biden to Kobe Bryant, Jay's podcast attracts an array of notable guests, enabling him to delve deep into thought-provoking discussions that inspire and enlighten his listeners.” | Our careers make up a big part of our lives and identities. In his Episode 500 “7 Creative Ways too Accelerate your Career and Do the Work You Love”, he explores how to plan, excel and accelerate at work and life. He covered 7 points and 2 resonated with me: #1 Pattern spotting. We are listening to what we are told will make us succeed. But miss seeing what is helping others succeed. Look at the pattern (e.g. going the extra mile, creating connections) and not the person. #2 Invest in what you are good at. Based on research on wealthiest people, they went all in on their strengths. When it comes to your hard skills, focus on your strengths, when it comes to your soft skills focus on your weaknesses. |
3. Deep Dive with Ali Abdaal
“The podcast that delves into the minds of entrepreneurs, creators and other inspiring people to uncover the philosophies, strategies and tools that help us live happier, healthier and more productive lives.” | In the episode “High Performance Psychologist: The Secret to Happiness is Vulnerability”, Ali explores thoughts the hold him back. “You aspire to be fearless, but you’re not. Fear will always be there. What matters is what do you do in the face of it” “The world is both brutal and beautiful. As soon as the sinister mind gets involved, prepare for suffering. All misery arises from reality clashing with expectations.” “Rather than being something different, remove the blocks that stop you from the values.” It boils down to my fundamental belief that we already possess what we need - wisdom, values, love and how coaching helps us find that. |
